Inland Empire Weekly is a weekly newspaper that produces an interesting mix of news, arts and entertainment. We are seeking an Arts & Culture Editor. The Arts & Culture Editor reports directly to the Editor-in-Chief and works closely with Editor-in-Chief, graphics team and editorial interns to produce weekly and monthly print publications, as well as multimedia content for website and other digital products. Candidate must be able to execute on multiple projects with tight deadlines, be self-starting leader, motivate other team players / subordinates, and develop compelling content at an established but evolving publishing company.Responsibilities include:• Editorial development and planning• Coordinating, writing and copyediting for print and web editions• Work with freelance writers once established in editorial position• Copyediting through all stages of the editorial process, according to AP and established house style• Handling multiple sections and areas of the publication, spanning across Art & Entertainment and all the way to News and Astrology. • Helping to maintain a web presence; which may include managing the upload of print stories onto the web, posting fresh weekly content to the site, writing as needed for e-newsletters and developing other multi-media extras regularly, as well as overseeing social media posts promoting online content and editorial outreach• Assist in the hiring, training and management of editorial interns, which includes researching, copyediting, fact-checking, web content uploading, web directory maintenance and other projects• Manage certain press cycle processes, including second-round edit checks; managing key contacts and clients; and acting as "AP style" and "house style" editor• Copywriting as needed, occasionally including advertorials and special advertising sections• Represent IE Weekly at company and industry events, as neededQualifications:• Strong work ethic and attention to detail a must• Excellent written and oral communication skills required• Knowledge about Inland Empire neighborhoods and cultural institutions desired• Degree in Journalism, Communications, PR or English preferred• 1-2 years experience working in a fast-paced team-driven environment desired• Experience at a magazine or newspaper preferred; desire to contribute to the growth of a rapidly growing publishing enterprise a must• Experience in multimedia content creation, including video, podcast and overall digital content management preferred• Must display a track record of meeting deadlines• 1-2 years published writing experience• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred; experience with Photoshop, InDesign a plus Location: Corona Compensation: Based on qualifications This is a contract job.Principals only.
